Event: Ribbon Cutting for BeauSoleil Solar Home Warehouse

Date: Wednesday, Oct. 1

Time: 8 a.m.

Location: Team BeauSoleil Warehouse, 215 E. Pinhook Road, United Way of Acadiana campus

A team comprised of UL Lafayette architecture, engineering and marketing students will join their professors and University administration, United Way officials, and Chamber members to officially open the warehouse with a Chamber of Commerce Ribbon-Cutting at on Oct. 1, 2008. The BeauSoleil Warehouse is the site where the team will build the BeauSoleil Louisiana Solar Home for the 2009 Department of Energy Solar Decathlon. The warehouse space is being rented from the United Way of Acadiana by UL Lafayette at a discounted rate. This partnership represents the beginning of a rich and symbiotic collaboration of Non-Profits represented by UL Lafayette, United Way and Habitat for Humanity. TEAM BeauSoleil is the UL Lafayette team that was selected as one of only twenty teams from around the world to participate in the international design/build competition called the Solar Decathlon. The Solar Decathlon is a competition for teams of university students that compete to design, build, and operate an attractive, effective, and energy-efficient solar powered house. In late September 2009, college and university teams from around the world will join the competition's organizers and sponsors in Washington, D.C., to assemble a "solar village" on the National Mall.
