The UL Lafayette Alumni Association's 2006 Spring Gala will take place on the grounds of the Alumni Center on Saturday, April 8, from 6:30 until 10 p.m. One of the highlights of the night will be the silent auction where tickets to the U.S. Open to be held at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck New York and a one of a kind Ragin' Cajuns travel package will be just two of the must have items for the night.

The association will honor Braxton. I. Moody III in recognition of his commitment to the success of the University and his dedicated service to the surrounding community.

Moody, a graduate of Rayne High School, attended Auburn University after high school. His studies were interrupted when he joined the U. S. Navy in World War II, where he served in the Pacific aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Randolph.

Following his discharge from the Navy, Moody enrolled at Southwestern Louisiana Institute, now UL Lafayette. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Accounting.

He was a founding partner in the CPA firm of Moody, Broussard, Poche' & Guidry with offices in Crowley and Lafayette. Moody also served as President & Chief Executive Officer of Chart House, Inc., a public company operating Burger King hamburger restaurants in Louisiana, Illinois, California, Virginia, and Texas, as well as Chart House steak restaurants in California, Cork & Cleaver steak restaurants located in Colorado and Luther's Barbeque, domiciled in Texas. He also served as Chairman of the Board of First National Bank of Lafayette.

His services on boards of directors include Rayne State Bank & Trust Company, First National Bank of Crowley, Acadia Savings & Loan Association, Coastal Chemical Company, Inc. of Abbeville, Riviana Foods, Inc. of Houston, First Commerce Bank of New Orleans, Celeron Oil Company, Inc. of Lafayette, and Quantum Restaurants, Inc. of New York.

Moody served as President of the Greater Crowley Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the United Givers Fund of Acadia Parish.

He is married to the former Thelma Hebert of Rayne and they are the parents of nine children and grandparents of forty-nine grandchildren. The Moody's reside in Crowley.

In its tenth year, the gala event will consist of fine food and refreshments, wonderful entertainment as well as both silent and live auctions, with items ranging from Ragin' Cajun memorabilia, to fine art and trips.

The Spring Gala is the Alumni Association's only annual fundraising event, with proceeds from the evening being used to fund the Alumni Center.

At the core of organizing the event is Theresa Gaspard, President-Elect, who is serving as chair of the Gala. Melanie Martin, Alumni Council Member, is serving as chair of the Auction Committee.

Patron level contributors of $2,000 will receive eight gala tickets, reserved seating for eight, valet parking, their name listed on the evening's program and patrons' sign and their name listed on a plaque permanently placed in the Alumni Center. Sponsor level contributors of $5,000 will also receive eight gala tickets, reserved seating for eight, valet parking, their name listed on the evening's program and sponsorship sign and their name listed on a plaque permanently placed in the Alumni Center. Sponsors will also be invited to participate in a private reception. Tickets to attend are $150 per couple.
