On Saturday, Ragin’ Cajun spirit will be in full force for Homecoming 2006 at UL Lafayette.

The day starts with the Ragin’ Road Race at 8 a.m. at the Alumni Center. Everyone is invited to participate in this 5K run/walk which starts and finishes near the Alumni Center on St. Mary Boulevard.

Entry fee is $15 which includes lunch, refreshments and a t-shirt for each runner/walker. A $1 discount is being offered for CRRC runners.

Registration may be made on race day at the Alumni Center from 7:15 to 8 a.m. The race will begin promptly at 8 a.m.

Awards will be given to the first and second place winners in each age division. Also, overall male and female, first and second place winners will be awarded. A prize will also be given to the most spirited dressed runner. Age divisions include 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 and over.

Following the race, everyone is invited to visit the Alumni Center during an Open House which starts at 9:30 a.m. Refreshments will be available and everyone can stay for the Homecoming Parade.

The parade starts at 10 a.m. from Cajun Field and makes its way to the Alumni Center. This year’s grand marshal is Brian Mitchell, former Ragin’ Cajun football standout who went on to play in the NFL.

Following the parade, cooks are invited to join the fun at Cajun Field with the Ragin’ Red Tailgating Cookoff Contest.

This year’s format: you cook it and it will be judged. Participants are encouraged to cook their specialty tailgating dish using the unique Ragin’ Red spice.

Winners will be asked to submit their recipe for possible inclusion in a Ragin’ Red cookbook.
