KREWE OF ROUX PARADE FIRST OF SEASON
King and Queen to be selected tomorrow
| On Saturday, Feb. 3, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette will kick off the 2007 Mardi Gras season with its annual Krewe of Roux parade at 1:30 p.m.; a tradition of the university for more than 25 years.
Krewe of Roux is the first Mardi Gras parade of the year in the Lafayette area, and this year many businesses and schools along with UL Lafayette student groups will be participating.
The King and Queen for Krewe of Roux will be selected Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 11:45 a.m. in the Student Union Lobby. All student organizations were asked to nominate a duke and maid; it is from this group of students that the king and queen are selected.
The dukes and maids will let King Cake decide who’s King and Queen. The students who find the baby in the cake will be deemed King and Queen.
The Coronation of the King and Queen and presentation of the court, as well as a King Cake Give-A-Way will take place on Jan. 31 at 11:45 a.m. in the Student Union Lobby. The selected King and Queen and their court will ride in the parade.
The parade will travel from the UL Lafayette campus on East Lewis Street to the Cajundome. After the parade, there will be free food, drinks and live entertainment near Fraternity Row as a pre-game tailgating party for the men's and women's basketball teams.
The women's basketball team will take on the University of New Orleans at 4:30 p.m., with the men’s game also against UNO following at 7 p.m.
