|DISABILITY AWARENESS WEEK MARCH 19-22
| Services for Students with Disabilities, along with support from the Beacon Club, will be hosting a series of events promoting Disability Awareness Week March 19 through 22.
On March 19, free popcorn and Coca-Cola will be handed out as part of the “Food for Thought” event. Volunteers from Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity will be passing out educational information on disabilities along with the treats on the corner of Rex and St. Mary Streets from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The Beacon Club will be sponsoring a luncheon for its members and invited guests on March 21 from noon until 2 p.m. in the SSD office located in the Conference Center, room 126.
On March 22, professional speaker James Smith will be on hand to give his talk titled “The Creativity of Stress: Making Stress Work for You.” This unique and exciting speaker will engage audiences in the concepts of communication, motivation and stressors.
Smith’s hour-long presentation will provide information about how to identify stresses as well as give tips for enjoying life. The presentation will be held in the Student Union Ballroom at 6 p.m. All UL Lafayette students, faculty and staff are invited to attend.
Prior to the presentation, members of the SSD office will be manning stations where students, faculty and staff can experience what it is like to have a disability.
Students will be able to take a trip in a wheelchair, read using Braille items as well as experience what it is like to be dyslexic. These hands-on activities will provide an educational way for others to understand the limitations of disabilities.
For more information about any activities scheduled during Disability Awareness Week, call the SSD office at 482-5252.
