Wear Red Day Aug. 31It’s only natural to circle in red Aug. 31 on your calendar. It is Wear Red Day after all and everyone is invited to celebrate.

Participation is fairly simple: just find a red Ragin’ Cajuns shirt (or hat, pants, etc.) in your closet and wear it. Celebrating the positive impact the University of Louisiana at Lafayette has had on the development of the Acadiana area is just that easy.

“ For more than 100 years, UL Lafayette has been an integral part of Acadiana, helping to shape and grow our community,” said Matt Tarver, assistant director for Trademark Licensing at UL Lafayette. “Wear Red Day is the perfect time to show your support and school spirit.”

This second annual event is being held in conjunction with College Colors Day, a national celebration of the traditions, contributions and achievements of universities across the country.

To mark the event, UL Lafayette is encouraging everyone to wear red to work and school on Aug. 31. There’s a little lagniappe too.

Businesses are once again invited to contend for bragging rights for the most employees wearing red on Aug. 31.

Wear Red Day Aug. 31 “ The contest will again be divided into categories based on a company’s overall size,” said Tarver. “Representatives of the winning companies will be invited to a home football game for an on-field presentation proclaiming them the 2007 Wear Red Champions.”

Photos of participating teams will be displayed on the jumbo video screen on the scoreboard at home football games throughout the season.

In 2006, more than 50 local businesses competed. Winners included Regent Broadcasting, the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Schumacher Group in the small, mid-size and large categories respectively. Innovative Intelligent Design won the 2006 Wear Red Spirit Award.

To enter, simply submit a high-resolution, digital photograph of your entire group wearing red on Aug. 31, along with the total number of people in the photo and the number of employees at the business.

Submissions can be sent via email to WearRed@louisiana.edu. The deadline for photo entries is Friday, Sept. 7.
