An energy conversion and savings workshop for local small industries and farmers is being offered on March 13 at the Best Western Hotel Acadiana in Lafayette. Attendees will learn about using local non-traditional fuels for generating heat and power for their businesses. Facility managers at small to medium industries, farms, and livestock feeding stations, and waste treatment plants are encouraged to attend.

The event is hosted by the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, UL Lafayette, the U.S. Department of Energy, and others. Dr. Ted Kozman and Dr. Will Emblom from the Mechanical Engineering Department at UL Lafayette are part of the organizing team which includes members from the Houston Area Resource Center and the LA-DNR.

Dr. Kozman is a nationally recognized expert at identifying sources of waste energy and performs free energy audits for companies through the Industrial Assessment Center at UL Lafayette.

The speakers at the workshop are recognized experts from the region and nationally. The presentations will contain material for both experts and those just now considering incorporating fuels into their industrial processes. Included in the presentations is a business model that can be used for deciding whether alternative fuels and industrial wastes may be the correct decision for companies.

This workshop supports the U.S. DOE's Industrial Technologies Program “Save Energy Now” to help industries operate more efficiently and profitably by identifying ways to reduce energy in industries.
