DEEP SOUTH PRESENTS SHORT FILM FESTIVAL STARTING APRIL 1

The Deep South Festival of Writers and the Cinematic Arts Workshop will present UL Lafayette's Short Film Festival, featuring guest filmmaker Guy Maddin.

Maddin, one of the world's foremost independent filmmakers, will present his latest film, "Brand upon the Brain," at Fletcher Hall Auditorium on Tuesday, April 1 at 7:30 p.m. A question and answer period will follow.

On Wednesday, April 2, he will discuss his work in HL Griffin Hall, room 318. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Canada, Maddin has directed numerous shorts and nine features, including "The Saddest Music in the World," "Dracula-Pages from a Virgin's Diary," "Archangel," and the prize-winning short film, "The Heart of the World."

He is also an author, freelance film journalist, and teacher of film studies at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg and the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto. He has a feature-length documentary, "Love Me, Love My Winnipeg," coming out in the fall.

Screenings of short films made by UL Lafayette students and faculty for the festival will take place on Friday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 5 at 11 a.m. in HL Griffin Hall, room 347.

All the events are free and open to the public.
