Mr. James The UL Lafayette Alumni Association will honor Mr. James Hubert “Red” Dumesnil during its thirteenth annual Spring Gala, to be held Saturday, May 9th, at the Alumni Center from 6:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.

Red Dumesnil is a stalwart member of the community who has contributed his time, talents and treasure throughout his notable professional and personal life. A respected banking executive, Dumesnil joined Guaranty Bank & Trust Co. in 1957 and retired as Chairman Emeritus of Bank One Acadiana Region in 1998. He has remained active in the banking community and served on many local, state and national credit associations with his expertise as a commercial loan officer.

Mr. Dumesnil’s civic and religious service has been extensive serving on many boards and committees of numerous organizations including the Chamber of Commerce, Junior Achievement, Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI), Louisiana Fiscal Reform, Louisiana Tennis Association, Beaver Club, and Hospice of Acadiana. A trustee of St. John Cathedral and the Serra Club, he has also served the St. Thomas More Foundation, Southern Jesuits and the Bishop’s Charity Ball. A deserving recipient of many awards, all are overshadowed by the Lafayette Civic Cup in 1993.

A 1948 graduate of Cathedral High School, Dumesnil graduated from SLI in 1952 in Business Administration and earned his Masters in Economics from LSU in 1954 and served two years in the Korean conflict. He is married to Gertrude Hebert from Jennings, La and they are the proud parents of seven children and 14 grandchildren. A long-time member of the UL Alumni Association, he and his wife established the Hubert “Red” and Gertrude Dumesnil/BORSF Endowed Professorship in Economics in 2006.

The Spring Gala offers fine food, entertainment and both silent and live auctions that will include a variety of attractive offerings including original art, travel packages and Ragin’ Cajun merchandise. Darren Guidry, president-elect of the UL Lafayette Alumni Association, serves as chair of the Spring Gala and Gay Hopkins, Alumni Council member, serves as Spring Gala auction chair.

Tickets are $200 per couple or $100 per individual. Corporate sponsor tables may be purchased for $5,000 and patron sponsor tables are available for $2,000. Cox Communications will be the Gala’s presenting sponsor. Proceeds from the Gala are entirely dedicated to maintain and make improvements of the landmark Alumni Center.
