Ken Ardoin also recognized with special spirit award
Kennan GuilloryKennan Guillory, assistant director with Parking and Transit at UL Lafayette, is the latest recipient of the Ragin Cajun’ Spirit Award.

It recognizes a university employee who exemplifies the enthusiasm and spirit of Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns. The award was created and originally funded by the late Mr. Sid Ory, a former president of the UL Lafayette Alumni Association and the man credited with coining the term “Ragin’ Cajuns.”

Nominations are accepted from any university employee.

The selection committee takes into consideration someone who:

• participates in spirit activities,
• is visible in their support of the University,
• is proud of their University and shares that pride,
• consistently goes above and beyond and,
• maintains and shares a positive attitude.

The Ragin’ Cajun Spirit Award includes a $500 stipend for the recipient and a commemorative plaque. The award is traditionally announced at the University Employees’ Christmas Luncheon.

Previous Ragin’ Cajun Spirit Award recipients include:

2009 - Jennifer Martin Taylor - Management
2008 - Bill Crist - Physical Plant
2007 - Dr. Mary Neiheisel - Nursing

ken ArdoinThis year, a special award was also given to Ken Ardoin, vice president for University Advancement. Committee members noted many letters of nomination were submitted for both winners. Both Guillory and Ardoin received trophies, however, only Guillory was given a stipend.

In order for the traditional presentation of a stipend to continue on an annual basis, donations to enhance the Ragin’ Cajun Spirit Award Fund are welcome and encouraged from members of the University community. Donations by check can be made payable to the UL Lafayette Foundation, referencing the Ragin’ Cajun Spirit Award Fund (#18048) or by visiting www.ULLafayetteFoundation.org and donating on line.
