|PATRICK ADAMS IS SPRING 2011 OUTSTANDING GRADUATE|
|Patrick Adams is the Alumni Association's Spring
2011 Outstanding Graduate at the University of Louisiana
Each semester deans from the eight academic colleges nominates a student as an Outstanding Graduate based on leadership, scholarship and service. A selection committee with the Alumni Association interviews each candidate and selects one for the overall award.
Adams along with Amanda Green, Arts; Allen Latour, Business Administration; Tiffany Segura, Education; Brittany Delco, General Studies; Tyler Choate, Liberal Arts; Oliver Batiste Jr., Nursing; and Tyson Meaux, Sciences were this semester's honorees.
Adams, son of David and Sue Adams of Lafayette, was the Outstanding Graduate for the College of Engineering. The mechanical engineering major has a 4.0 GPA.
He's been on the President's and Dean's lists each semester and is a member of Tau Beta Pi, Pi Tau Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi and Blue Key Honors Society. He's also a member of UL Lafayette's Honor Program and has served on the Mechanical Engineering Student Advisory committee for two years.
Adams has received several scholarships including the UL Lafayette Academic Scholarship, the Keith Lindley Scholarship, the Tau Beta Pi Stabile Scholarship, the UL Lafayette Alumni Association Scholarship, the Blue Key Honor Society Scholarship and the DAAD RISE Scholarship, an award through Germany's academic exchange program.
He's also served as an SGA senator and has been a member of the Baja team for the past three years. He is captain of the Baja team currently.
Adams also worked with the school newspaper, The Vermilion, as the photography editor and as a tutor with The Learning Center. Within his college, he is a member of the Engineering Ambassadors, Designing Leaders Class of 2010 and the Louisiana Engineering Society.
In the community, Adams has volunteered with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Acadiana and currently volunteers at the Baton Rouge Medical Center in the oncology department.
This past summer, he worked as a student researcher at Pennington Biomedical Research Center. In 2008, he traveled to Germany to help develop a visualization system for rollercoaster simulation with a Ph.D. candidate.
After graduation, he plans to start the application process to attend medical school in 2012. He will also work for Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge.
