|UL LAFAYETTE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION AWARDS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS|
|The UL Lafayette Alumni Association awarded its endowed
scholarships for the 2011 - 2012 academic year.
These scholarships have been awarded since the Fall 2001 semester and they now provide $1,000 ($500 each fall and spring) to an exemplary student in each academic college, the Student Alumni Association (SAA) and the Graduate School.
The scholarships were presented this year to: Laura Guichard of Lafayette, an accounting major, Business Administration; Kristen Vaughan of Chalmette, a kinesiology/health and physical education major, Education; Andrew Manuel of Youngsville, a mechanical engineering major, Engineering; Kayla Arwood of Lafayette, a general studies major, General Studies; Daniel Manuel of Ville Platte, a history major, minoring in Cajun and Creole studies, Liberal Arts; Patrick Berner of Metairie, a dietetics/exercise science major, minoring in business, Nursing and Allied Health Professions; Christine Granger of Lafayette, a chemistry major, Sciences; Heidi Daigle of Rayne, a kinesiology/exercise science major, Student Alumni Association; and Amy Lynn Schexnayder of Church Point, history and geography, Graduate School.
These endowed scholarships were created through donations to the Alumni Annual Fund and to Louisiana motorists who chose to purchase UL Lafayette Prestige License Plates through the Louisiana Department of Motor Vehicles.
The fees collected are dedicated to the Alumni Association’s scholarship program. Awards are distributed from interest earned on funds deposited by the Alumni Association in the UL Lafayette Foundation. With the recent economic downturn, the Alumni Association contributed an additional $10,000 to ensure that its endowed scholarships would be fully awarded this academic year. The Alumni Association was inducted into the Foundation’s Hall of Honor in 2010 in recognition of its cumulative contributions totaling over $300,000 to the endowed scholarship funds.
The award recipients were determined by the Alumni Scholarship Committee, which is a standing committee of the UL Lafayette Alumni Council and is comprised of both elected and appointed council members who have volunteered to serve their alma mater.
The awards are based upon pre-determined criteria: 3.0 cumulative GPA, full time, senior-level undergraduate student (must have completed 90 hours at the time of scholarship award), and extracurricular activities.
