The University of Louisiana at Lafayette appointed Aaron Martin as director of the Communications and Marketing Office recently. In this role, Martin will be responsible for university branding, trademark licensing, public relations and web communications.

Martin’s previous experience includes the California Maritime Academy, as director of outreach, where he revitalized and diversified the student enrollment and was promoted to dean of Enrollment Management.

He later was a regional marketing director in San Francisco for an educational subsidiary of The Washington Post. In 2003, he returned to his hometown of New Orleans, where he worked in fundraising and communications management at Tulane University, including the challenging years after Hurricane Katrina.

Ken Ardoin, vice president for University Advancement, says Martin hasn’t wasted a moment since his arrival. “Aaron has jumped in with a fresh approach and is putting his expertise and experience to use. He’s refocused key communications for the university since joining the staff.”

Martin earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communication from the UL Lafayette in 1991 and 1995, respectively. As a student, he was editor of The Vermilion, vice president of the Student Government Association and coordinator of the Student Orientation Staff.

Martin added, “I emphasize outcomes-focused strategic planning, but above all, I love the ‘people’ aspect of my job. Whether it is building excellence in my team or bridging relations and partnerships around the community, people energize me.”

Kathleen Thames, who recently served as interim director, will continue to serve as associate director of the office.
