|UL LAFAYETTE SPRING 2012 OUTSTANDING GRADUATES|

A total of eight students will be honored during Spring 2012 commencement ceremonies as the UL Lafayette Alumni Association’s Outstanding Graduates.
Each semester deans from the eight academic colleges nominate a student as an Outstanding Graduate based on leadership, scholarship and service. A selection committee with the Alumni Association interviews each candidate and selects one for the overall award.
The overall winner will be announced during the General Assembly on May 12 in the Cajundome.
Here’s a look at this semester’s Outstanding Graduates.
Amanda Martin – College of the Arts
Amanda Martin, daughter of Todd and Stephanie Martin of Jeanerette, is the Outstanding Graduate for the College of the Arts.
She is a performing arts major with a concentration in dance and a 3.91 GPA. She has received the TOPS scholarship for four years and was recognized at the Honors Convocation in 2010 and 2011.
She has been a member of Chi Tau Epsilon for three years, serving as treasurer for two years and president for one year.
Martin performed in Mishay Petronelli’s “Noah’s Ark” in New York City last summer. She was also chosen as a delegate for senior performer 2011 at LA Dance Magic Convention.
She’s also performed in UL Lafayette’s State of La Danse in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Martin participated in UL Lafayette’s Evening of Dance from 2009 to 2012. In 2011 and 2012, she choreographed Evening of Dance.
Her volunteer work includes participating with Hearts of Hope Helping Hands, FoodNet, LARK and Habitat for Humanity.
Martin is moving to New York City in June to start an internship at Broadway Dance Center. After the internship is complete, she plans on auditioning for dance jobs.
Laura Guichard – B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration
Laura Guichard, daughter of Lance and Beth Guichard of Lafayette, is the Outstanding Graduate for the B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration.
The accounting major has maintained a 3.9 GPA throughout her college career. Guichard has been on both the Dean’s and President’s List and has won the Greek Academic Excellence Award seven times.
She is a member of Beta Alpha Psi, Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Beta Delta, Alpha Lambda Delta and Sigma Alpha Lambda.
Guichard has received numerous scholarships including the UL Lafayette Alumni Scholarship, Kappa Delta Sorority Marion Day Mullin’s Scholarship, Kappa Delta Sorority Founder’s Scholarship, Accounting Society Scholarship and many more.
She is a member of the Accounting Department Student Committee, Ethics Committee and Faculty Hiring Student Committee. Also, she was nominated for Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities and Ragin’ Recognition Outstanding Junior.
Her awards include Beta Alpha Psi Gold Chapter Challenge Award, National Kappa Delta Sorority Council Award, Kappa Delta Sorority Gamma Kappa’s Biggest Heart Award and Positive Polly Award and the Catholic Leadership Award.
She serves as president of Beta Alpha Psi and treasurer of the Order of Omega. She has been treasurer of Kappa Delta Sorority.
Guichard has clocked more than 400 community service hours while at UL Lafayette. She’s helped with tutoring, Bowl for Kids Sake, Festival Acadiens, Habitat for Humanity, Relay for Life, St. Joseph’s Diner, and the UL Lafayette Alumni Association’s Flower Fundraiser among many other organizations.
Currently, she is a student annual fund processor with the Alumni Association. She helps with alumni membership drives and alumni donations.
Upon graduation, she plans to earn a Masters in Business Administration from UL Lafayette. She will then sit for the CPA exam. She eventually wants to be a tax or corporate lawyer.
Maria Dallas – College of Education
Maria Dallas, daughter of Robert and Dolores Dallas of Lafayette, is the Outstanding Graduate for the College of Education. She’s an exercise science major.
She has maintained a 4.0 GPA during college. She’s a member of the Honors Program, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, Phi Beta Delta Honor Society and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.
She’s the recipient of several scholarships including the Dr. Ben H. and Clare Roy Thibodeaux Endowed Scholarship, the Jesse and Irma Jewel Endowed Scholarship and the TOPS Honor Award. Dallas was nominated for Outstanding Sophomore of the Year in 2010 and Outstanding Junior in 2011.
Dallas has been active in a variety of campus organizations including the Kinesiology Professional Association, the Louisiana Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, Our Lady of Wisdom Catholic Student Organization and Delta Delta Delta Sorority.
Her volunteer work includes helping the Miles Perret Cancer with a special projects course, providing exercise to cancer patients. She also designed and implemented a comprehensive wellness program for an individual with a disability.
After graduation, she plans to attend enroll in the Master of Occupational Therapy program at the University of South Alabama.
Stephen Davis – College of Engineering
Stephen Davis, son of Kelly and Karen Davis of Muenster, Texas, is the Outstanding Graduate for the College of Engineering. The petroleum engineering major has a 3.9 GPA.
He’s been on the President’s and Dean’s lists since 2008 and is a member of Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society and Phi Epsilon Tau Petroleum Engineering Honor Society.
Davis has received several scholarships including the Dallas SPE Scholarship and the API Teche Scholarship.
He is a member of the Student Society of Petroleum Engineering, where he serves as president. The chapter was awarded Most Outstanding Student Chapter in North America and was recognized as a Gold Standard Chapter.
He is also a member of the American Association of Drilling Engineers, the Louisiana Engineering Society, the Knights of Columbus, the Newman Club and the UL Lafayette Petrobowl team.
Davis has volunteered with many organizations including Camp Wisdom, United Way, SPE, API and has served as mentor to freshmen and sophomores students studying petroleum engineering.
After graduation, he will work as a drilling engineer for Chevron in Pittsburgh, PA.
Chasity Gary - College of General Studies
Chasity Gary, daughter of Kevin Blanchard and Merry Gary of Broussard, is the Outstanding Graduate for the College of General Studies.
She is a General Studies major with a 3.686 GPA. Gary has been named to the President’s List every semester at UL Lafayette.
Prior to UL Lafayette, Gary attended LSU-Eunice and was an Academic All American First team in softball in 2010.
Most recently, she was nominated for Who’s Who and was asked to join an honors society.
Gary volunteered with efforts to raise money for the Miles Perret Cancer Center, coaching fast-pitch softball and is an avid member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Upon graduation, Gary plans to get a teaching certificate in health and physical education.
Quincy Mouton - College of Liberal Arts
Quincy Mouton, son of Larry Boudreaux and Patsy Mouton of Duson, is the Outstanding Graduate for the College of Liberal Arts.
He is a political science major with a concentration in pre-law. He has maintained a 4.0 GPA.
Mouton has been on both the Dean’s List and President’s List every semester. He’s received a TOPS Performance Scholarship, the Tom and Lena Richie Endowed Memorial Scholarship, the Durand Outstanding Student in Political Science Scholarship and the Political Science Department Scholarship.
He also received the Black Student’s Achievement Award and the Outstanding Liberal Arts Student Award from the Black Faculty and Staff Caucus and the UL Lafayette Academic Excellence Award in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
Mouton is president of the UL Lafayette College Democrats and is public relations co-chair for Circle K International. He is a member of both the Political Science Club and the Pre-Law Club and was nominated for Who’s Who.
He has volunteered with R.E.A.L. Education and Outreach, Bowl for Kids Sake and SMILE. He’s also helped construct the special needs area in Girard Park.
Mouton has worked as an intern with Louisiana State Representatives Nancy Landry and Vincent Pierre.
Upon graduation, Mouton plans to attend law school.
Patrick Berner – College of Nursing and Allied Health Professions
Patrick Berner, son of Craig and Crystal Berner of Metairie, has been named this year’s Outstanding Graduate of the College of Nursing and Allied Health Professions.
Berner is a dietetics major with minors in business and kinesiology and has earned a 3.951 GPA. He has been on the President’s List every semester.
He earned the Academic Excellence Award in 2010 and 2011 and is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.
Berner has received several scholarships including the Philip and Lois Scholarship, the UL Lafayette Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship and the Marie Louise Comeaux Endowed Scholarship.
In 2012, he was nominated for Who’s Who Among American Universities and Colleges and Outstanding Dietetic student in a Louisiana Didactic program.
He is a member of the Student Dietetic Association, serving as vice president and editor of its newsletter. He also created the SDA mentoring program and started a coat/toy drive for Faith House.
He also belongs to the Louisiana Dietetic Association and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. He has volunteered with Cox Communications Health Fair and the Acadiana Heart Walk.
Berner plans to earn a doctorate of physical therapy.
Brooke Richard – Ray P. Authement College of Sciences
Brooke Richard, daughter of Christopher and Susan Richard of Lafayette, is the Ray P. Authement College of Sciences Outstanding Graduate.
Richard is a biology major with minor in chemistry. She has earned a 3.801 GPA.
She is a member of the UL Lafayette Honors Program, along with several honor societies including Phi Beta Delta, Sigma Alpha Lambda and Phi Kappa Phi.
In addition to a TOPS Honor Scholarship, she has been awarded an Academic Excellence Scholarship, Lafayette Parish Medical Scholarship, Honors Alumni Scholarship and the Mrs. John Jacob FaKouri Memorial Endowed Scholarship in biology.
Richard has volunteered for a number of community organizations including St. Vincent DePaul Society, Our Lady of Fatima Church, Journey Hospice and United Way. She has also volunteered for a number of health-related groups including the Lafayette Community Health Care Clinic, Heart Walk, Buddy Walk, Race for the Cure, Camp Cajun and Relay for Life.
Her Honors thesis work was cited in an abstract presented to the American Society of Microbiology.
After graduation, Richard will attend medical school in Shreveport. She intends to complete a residency in either emergency medicine or internal medicine.
