|UL LAFAYETTE LIBRARIAN WINS NATIONAL AWARD|
|April Grey, head of cataloging at UL Lafayette's Dupré Library,
is one of two librarians being honored with the Annual Conference
Professional Development Attendance Award
sponsored by the
American Library Association
(ALA) New Members Round Table.
Grey will receive a ticket to the International Librarians Reception at ALA's 2012 Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif. The award fosters active involvement in ALA and provides professional development and networking opportunities that new members might otherwise not attain.
In her award-winning essay, Grey stated that attending the International Librarians Reception would give her the opportunity to network with international professionals and gain contacts that will give her a new perspective on library management and services provided in diverse communities throughout the world.
"As a librarian in southwest Louisiana, the Cajun and Creole heritage of the Acadian people is a unique culture, and I would love to share the distinctive cultural ideas and heritage with fellow ALA members and especially the international librarians," she said.
Grey expects that the opportunity will lead to collaboration with university librarians from former French colonies and other locations around the world.
The ALA Annual Conference is scheduled for June 21-26, 2012. The International Librarians Reception will be held on June 25.
