New Buses Feature University-inspired Design

Lafayette Consolidated Government’s two new buses that hit the streets in January are rolling with a University of Louisiana at Lafayette-inspired design.

They will be designated for use along city-parish bus routes. They depict the university's campus archways, an extension of the “Fueled by Nature” theme on other LCG buses powered by natural gas.

Both buses were purchased by LCG with Federal Transit Administration funds.

LCG is gradually transitioning its bus fleet from diesel fuel to compressed natural gas. The switch is being made to save money, and as an environmentally friendly alternative to diesel fuel.

The vehicles were unveiled Jan. 24 in front of Hilliard University Art Museum on UL Lafayette’s campus.

Dr. Sandra Woodley, new president of the University of Louisiana System; Joey Durel, Lafayette City-Parish president; and Dr. Joseph Savoie, University president; were on hand for the event.
